PERFORMANCE AT RESOURCE MPLS, 10/12/26

First and most urgently: This turns out to have been one of the final events at Resource Mpls— in its recent form at least— since a fire damaged it and displaced its stewards. Here’s a link to “support Resource, including the humans who sustain it”.

In any case, it was a pleasure to coordinate this large group improvisation under the name Thousands Without Power at Resource Mpls, Monday Rocktober 12th, 2026.

George Cartwright: sax

Mike Duffy: lap steel

Liz Draper: bass

Charles Gillett: guitar

John Marks: electronics

Matt Regan: bass

And featuring Minnesota’s premier team of CPAs, Andy Graydon and Mike Hallenbeck, preparing returns live onstage!

Bryce couldn't make it; he had a D&D game.

This performance responded to sound/ music cues created by Hallenbeck in collaboration with the cast and crew of "Inhuman", a recent movement theater production by Skewed Visions Performance Company.

Rumor has it that a Roomba strapped with a sample playback device was unleashed toward the end of the set, but this has only been corroborated with murky video and a couple of clear still photos (too clear, according to detractors who already deride it as AI). Scholars will debate the veracity of these conflicting claims for decades.

But no one will dispute that Niloufar Shiri (in the red skirt, seated on the floor) followed with a terrific set on kamancheh, found objects, tape recorders, and a variety of feedback strategies.

Audio forthcoming. It's been immensely inspiring to collaborate with all these theater, visual, music, and sound artists over the course of this project. Huge gratitude. Thanks to Zoe Cinel for these photos and video, and for sharing vigilance and readiness with Kevin McLaughlin and Andrew Hunter. And thanks to Luke Martin for hosting!
