original MUSIC FOR ANIMATION: “TOWN WITHOUT LAWS” PILOT
Recent commissioned score: an intro theme I wrote for an animated pilot by Kiarra Moore for a series she’s developing called “Town Without Laws”.
Described as a dark comedy/ horror Western and set in the 1870s, the proposed series follows a teenager accused of a crime he didn't commit. He’s branded an outlaw and sentenced to be hung. His only safe haven is "The Town Without Laws"-- a prison carnival (owned by Lu, who also just happens to be the Devil). He and his companions Jessibell and Boone are granted days off their sentence for playing and surviving death games chosen by the people who they’ve wronged.
The creative brief called for a warped, cowpunk take on Western themes and carnival music. Chimes, harmonica, and organ all made appearances in addition to an electric guitar theme. I was encouraged to keep distorting and de-tuning the melody as drafts proceeded, distressing the notes as if they were coming through an old phonograph.
