POPCORN SOUND DESIGN FOR DOCUMENTARY

Once again, Cool Cat Audio finds itself exploring the sonic world of popcorn– this time for Justin Atkinson’s documentary “Let’s All Go to the Lobby: The Story of Filmack”, about the genesis of intermission films wherein anthropomorphic snacks encourage us to head for the concession stand to consume them.

Above: photo of a recent setup for a Foley session, to capture the elusive presence of popcorn flakes colliding lightly as they fly around. “Flake” is apparently the proper term for a popped single piece of popcorn; had to look that up. “Kernel” is of course the term used to refer to an unpopped piece of popcorn– popcorn at rest, as it were.
