SOUND DESIGN FOR FILM CLASS COMPLETED
Thanks to Film North for hosting my recently-wrapped Sound Design for Film class, and thanks to the students for bringing it alive with robust discussions! We talked about how sound in film facilitates storytelling, helps in worldbuilding, and creates meaning. We explored dialog, sound effects, music, and the various subdivisions of each. Best of all, students had the opportunity to create Foley and ADR with some hands-on (or feet-on, in the case of Foley) recording sessions.
Thanks also to Frances Chewning for allowing me to use a scene from her forthcoming film “The Pic” to demonstrate FX editing and convolution reverb. All went over well, and I’m threatening to repeat the course soon. Stay tuned!
