NEW YEAR, NEW NAME!

I recently changed the name of my audio house from Junior Birdman Audio to Cool Cat Audio. Find out why using this handy FAQ, and prepare to be underwhelmed!

Why did you change the name of your company?

The old name had become, as it were, a bit of an albatross. I really didn’t think it through before applying the name to my business. It made sense to rebrand. I wanted something a little shorter, easier to remember, something people might have better associations with-- or any associations whatsoever, really.

What was wrong with the name “Junior Birdman Audio”?

Pretty much everything, when it comes down to it. First of all, almost no one understood that it’s a reference to an old campfire song-- apparently a far more obscure song than I’d assumed. Some people wondered if it had something to do with the movie Birdman, or Harvey Birdman, or that I was supposed to be the birdman, or whatever. The name did no work, and whenever anyone asked about it, the conversation would kind of lurch into a ditch from which it then had to be extracted. Not to mention that no one seemed to be able to remember it. None of which was helpful.

Why is the new name better?

It’s a lot more straightforward, for one thing. I like cats a lot, and a lot of other people like them, and if someone wants to call me a cool cat, they’re more than welcome to do so. It’s memorable, but also generic enough that no one will likely get preoccupied with it. The URL was available, which was key-- I did think of other names, but I wouldn’t have been able to own the .com, and I didn’t want to settle for one of those other new-fangled suffixes. The URL is shorter than the previous one, and my new email address is shorter too. Generally I like the fact that the name won’t be as much of a conversation piece-- and if it is, it at least won’t be a conversation stopper as well.

Will anything else about the company be changing?

We do plan to increase the awesomeness of our work by 3% with each passing fiscal year. Otherwise, it’s just a name change.
