3M: PRO CONTRACTOR PRODUCT VIDEOS

Sound edit, Foley, music composition, and mix on a comprehensive series of product videos aimed at pro contractors, emphasizing durability in the face of demanding circumstances.

No audio was documented on the shoot, so the project required extensive Foley and FX edit to articulate the visceral, highly textured reality of the work depicted. I spent a lot of time creating delicate layers of sound by scraping wood and stone surfaces with various implements, notching equipment clasps, manipulating cloth and the plastic of protective suits to match movement, and performing breaths through the various masks.

I composed the ambient swell of music toward the end of the above video as well. The mixes required sensitivity to the specific acoustic properties of specific environments, as well as the decision of when to crossfade between narrative sound and the more presentational space of product depiction at the end of the spot.

The video for Quick Latch Respirator with Cool Flow Valve (below) involved the challenge of many subtle and nuanced sounds evoking clsaps, cloth, light handling, water, and assorted friction:

Below: This somewhat more raucous spot offers a tribute to the life lived by building contractors, focusing on the roughness and ruggedness of their lived experience. I tucked in a variety of edgy FX and Foley to protrude just beneath the surface of the music (a library track provided by the client). The piece below won awards for Branded Content and Cinematography at Ad Fed’s The Show 2020.
